Producer / Engineer

Although James is primarily known for his solo records, he is also an accomplished and very busy producer and engineer.

His most recent, the self-produced, “Wondering Where The Rush Has Gone” was released in June of 2009 on Shameless Records Canada.

His previous release, “In Transit”, was co-produced by James and Hawksley Workman. The album, and in particular the production work, has been met with critical acclaim across Canada.

In 2005, James teamed up with longtime musical cohort Chris Wynters to found The Norwood Studio. Since that time, Chris and James have produced/recorded over 25 artists including critically acclaimed recordings from The Wheat Pool, Adam Gregory, Amy Seeley (currently featured on a Canon camera TV commercial), Jay Gilday and Canadian Idol top 20 finalist, Martin Kerr.

A multi-instrumentalist, James often plays several instruments on the recordings he produces, frequently organizing a rhythm section or whole band for the recording in the case of working with solo, singer/songwriters.

James has a unique approach in the studio, avoiding pre-production in favour of finding the feel of an album through performances in the studio. He believes this allows for more creativity and a natural excitement to emerge in the recording process.

When James is not in the studio, or touring performing his own material, he is often performing live as a band member for many of the artists he has worked with.

This is what sets James apart from other producers/engineers, James works tirelessly to promote and support the artists he’s worked with, long after they’ve left his studio.
